Global Tax Director
Mr. Gonçalves is a licensed attorney (Brazil) and the head of HAYMAN-WOODWARD Global Tax’s planning practice. He brings more than seventeen years of experience in tax law, transfer pricing, customs, M&A, international contracts/transactions and international bidding procedures to the company.
Luis has been also admitted as a lawyer in Portugal and is an Enrolled Agent before the United States Internal Revenue Services (IRS).
As an international tax professional, Mr. Gonçalves has worked for KPMG and prestigious Brazilian law firms. Further, he has also acted as the Head of Tax for Latin America operations of a major Argentinean agri-business player, as well as for the Brazilian operations of CVS Health Corporation.
Mr. Gonçalves earned a J.D. Degree in Brazil from Faculdade de Direito de São Bernardo do Campo, and two Master of Laws (L.L.M.) Degrees, the first in tax law in Brazil from INSPER, and the second L.L.M. in international taxation from the University of Florida Levin College of Law.
Due to his academic and professional backgrounds, Mr. Gonçalves has acquired solid experience in dealing with international tax matters, involving both multinational enterprises and high net worth individuals with business/interests in Latin America, the U.S., Canada, Europe, Africa, Asia, the Middle East, and Australia.
Mr. Gonçalves possesses strong technical knowledge of cross-border taxation, as well as experience with domestic and international tax planning for high-net-worth individuals, medium size companies, and multinational financial services entities.
His ability to identify and reduce the complexity of taxing policies and processes, while developing and implementing tax strategies that are compatible with regulatory requirements, is an important aspect of HAYMAN-WOODWARD Global Tax’s strategy.
Mr. Gonçalves provides tax planning/consulting services to foreign high net worth individuals who are investing in and planning to immigrate to the U.S. (Pre-Immigration tax planning/strategies). This includes implementing and reviewing trusts, foundations, investment funds, and holding structures in the U.S., Europe, Brazil, Latin America, and the Caribbean.
Mr. Gonçalves is fluent in English and Portuguese, and conversational in Spanish.
